Linux RPM Developer (2006 – 2017)

I maintained several hundred RPM packages for various Linux distributions for more than ten years. Initially the reason I got interested on doing this was to have the applications I most used updated to their latest version in backports or 3rd party repositories. With time I ended up being part of the distribution teams. Doing this helped me to have a much deeper understanding of how a Linux operating system works and learned to work in a collaborative environment.

Mageia Linux (2010 – 2017)

I was one of the contributors that moved on with the Mandriva core developers when they founded mageia. I came to maintain more than a hundred packages over the years, and also helped with the mentoring program, which its objective is to help new developers  learn about the distribution’s development process and improve their RPM packaging skills.

I still contribute to them maitaining the project’s official docker images.

Mandriva Linux (2006 – 2010)

I maintained a couple dozen packages for Mandriva Linux until Mandriva (the company) went bankrupt and core developers moved on and created mageia Linux.

PCLinuxOS (2005 – 2006)

At the time I was a fervent user of Mandrake/Mandriva since ’99, but I was getting frustrated with the slowness with which Mandriva delivered updated program versions, so I switched to PCLinuxOS because they did release updated packages more often when new versions came out. I learned RPM packaging and I started contributing to that distro. After I felt I had become a decent packager I went back to Mandriva to help with package updates.
